Instagram developers have been busy! This week Instagram users have been gifted a whole new host of features that are designed to improve user experience.
New updates include the ability for users to add clickable hashtags and profile tags to their user bio and for business pages they have finally expanded their Shopping on Instagram feature to eight more countries (including Australia).
Hashtag and Profile Tags
Instagram shared the update on their blog:
Today, we’re introducing hashtag and profile links in bio, a new way to express yourself and the things you care about. Now when you include a # or @ in your bio, they become live links that lead to a hashtag page or another profile.”
It’s an additional investment into hashtags from Instagram after allowing users to follow hashtags in the same way they follow accounts earlier this year.
So how can you jump on to these features?
To add a hashtag or profile link in your bio, just tap on Edit Profile and go to the bio section. When you type a # or @, you will see a list of recommended hashtags and accounts in the typeahead. Once you select the hashtags and accounts you want, they will automatically be linked in your bio.”
Shopping on Instagram
Since 2016 you may have noticed some companies (such as Kate Spade and Glossier) with “shoppable” pictures. The way the feature works is similar to when users are tagged in an image, except it links out to a web page instead of another profile.
Australian companies including Myer and Country Road were featured in testing for Australia. So how can you get your account set up?
- Set your profile to a business account
- Ensure you’re an admin of the Facebook page connected to the account
- Use your Facebook shop to upload items OR upload your product account through a business manager like BigCommerce
So, what are you waiting for?
Remember, Instagram love when users experiment with their new features – so adopt quickly and you may see better content performance on your channels!
